Time Stood Still

July 29, 2023 @ 11:00 am - August 13, 2023 @ 6:30 pm

The ancient village of Hampi located in the path of the mighty Tungabhadra River, meanders through rocky hills inspiring innumerable creative minds. Unusual topography dotted with monolithic granite boulders shaped by the elements since tens of millions of years, have created awe-inspiring forms. Ensconced in the magnificent landscape created by the vagaries of Nature, are the ruins of an ancient and grand empire. A man-made landscape of creative genius in the making of carved temple pillars, ‘gopurams’ juxtaposed with unusual rock formations perceived as forms, that has manifested into abstraction by Jaikishan Tada.
Tada began his creative tryst, inspired during visits to the historical and magnificent grandeur of Hampi. Acrylic medium and palette knife as a tool for interlocking rectangular forms, re-create light and shade that he found interesting in the structures of the ancient site. The leitmotif is mainly to depict the pride of the uniqueness of the historical site in Karnataka. Each composition impress with his own style, not relying on being realistic and yet creating a world within a world. The deployment of colours reflect the earth and appear less brighter than his signature of a bright palette. Predominant use of Raw Umber, Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre contrasted with tones of cool colours, highlight the unusual terrain.
Jaikishan Tada has studied the Masters of Art from old to Modern to Contemporary – from Rembrandt, Paul Cezanne to Indian Masters namely S H Raza, Ram Kumar to Yusuf Arakkal. Their great insights in art, artists and styles were inspiring for his creations. Tada has relied on Abstraction with an emphasis on forms that create an emotive resonance in the series on Hampi.
“The works of ‘abstract’ art are subtle creations of order out of simple contrasting elements”
-Jan Tschicold
